A month to quilt them!!!

Hello Hello Hello !!!!

It's been a crazy month this past one!! Where did Februray go you guys? Do you feel it too, or am I the only one? I'm really sorry that I haven't been able to respond to your lovely emails, or even read your amazing blogs and comment on your makings!!! but I've been sssseeewwwwww busy, there was actually no time for having fun!!! And I HATE that I can't keep up with you guys :( I'll have to think of something (and fast!!!), cause honestly sometimes it feels not so fun anymore!!!

Anyways...making a stop here with all this negativity!! Let me show you what I've been doing all this time that you haven't heard from me!!

Well, first of all my TOP SECRET project!! Finally not so secret anymore.  My little niece has turned 1 year old (time really flies!!!) last Saturday.  But let me start this story from the beginning.. Her mom loves, I mean really LOVES mermaids.. so little Love's Christening theme will be Love-ly Little Mermaid.  Now, her godmother had asked me to make something for Love's birthday! I thought I should make her a Mermaid quilt!! I had been eye-balling the AMAZING fabric line, Mendocino from Heather Ross, since last year, and I was literally drooling to get my hands on it!! I love the fact that it's not such a childish fabric line, like Ariel the mermaid or sth!! Btw, did you know that it's out of print and very hard to find? I mean, wtf I even bided for this little beauty on ebay...and managed to get my hands on 2 FQs.  Don't ask me about their prices!!! One word only, gold costs less than Mendocino!! Trust me!! Anywwooooo.. I managed to get my hands on I think it was like 2 or maybe 3 fqs and a bundle of fat eights from Mendocino, I've also used a few coordinating fabrics.  For the binding I chose a lovely print from Cloud 9 (btw have you seen the upcoming lines Monsterz and Simpatico ?? I have no words!!I just can't wait for them to FINALLY get to the shops!!!!). I'm changing subject here!! This is what happens when a whole month goes by without having shared anything with you!! I don't know where to start!!!

Anyways... are you curious to see it? I know that I can't wait to show you :D

The Mermaid Quilt

I had some pucker issues on the back of the quilt, but I've managed to hide them with the label!! I can't tell you how frustrated I was for these mistakes, but then I read somewhere something that Amish say... "Only God is perfect" and that they deliberatly make some mistakes on their quilts to remind them of this saying!! I was a bit relieved..but I know now that it's all about PROPER BASTING!!! And mine was far from proper. Did I tell you that I've hand sewn the binding? What a great and painful (I've lost my thimble!! can you imagine??) experience!! The result is so much better than machine stitching, have you tried it? I'm pretty happy with the result, it turned out fairly big 47*60'', but to tell you the truth I'm even happier with the amazing comments I got for it!! Anndd for the owl-ish gift wrap, isn't it the cutest?

I've also made another quilt, not cribed size though!! I've been asked to make a stroller blanket for a newborn girl, and since I can't knit, I thought I should make her a stroller quilt (perfect for Spring walks----which btw is finally sssoooo close!!!!:D)!! I improvised on it's dimensions, since I couldn't find a standard size for it.  It measured 28*31'', but I think next time (if there's gonna be a next time) I'll be making it at least 35'' long. I didn't want to make a "classic" quilt, since I didn't know if the mummy that would get it, is familiar with quilts in general.  So, I went with the applique method!! And the result was far greater than I've expected!! Soooooo voila :D

Simone and the sleeping Owl stroller quilt!!

At first I thought I would quilt it by just outlining all leaves.. then I decided to practice my fmq, and I'm glad I did after all.. I just love all these little clouds! I know that there are many mistakes in this one also, but they're not THAT visible by someone who is not familiar with the craft.

And hey after all!! It's two quilts in a month!!! And this little one in less than 3 days!!

Now I know that 2012 will be the year of quilting ;-)

Happy Sewing people:D

  4. The quilts are beautiful! I just love, love the birds.

FYI: I use 505 spray on all my quilts to sandwich them together and it solved the puckering problem.

    Thanks for the peek ~
